FINISHED
We have finally finished our music Video. The feedback that we gained from the rough cuts provided us with a clear guide on what we had to do. The main things we changed for our final video was the effects that we used and the types of cuts we added which are on the beat of the song. Hopefully Everyone likes our music video in the cinema.
Progress Review Blog
The Creating of a music video is a project that was enjoyable and hard but usefull on gaining skills that we might use later in life. I think for this product we have done everything to a high standard from reachearch to the editing stage of this project.
The Reasearch and planning of our music video was a fun process becaause we watched allot of genres and conventions while we tried to find our preferred song. We started our research by looking at past students music videos and music videos from british artists. Our reasearch was succesfull as it made us think clearly about what we wanted to create and it helped us to change our minds on the genre from Rnb to Pop.
The Blog that i am most proud of is skills development blog because it reminds me about what i have learnt so far in thins project. I have learnt all the basics needed to create a music video and also how to promote artists by using differerent platforms according to your target audience. This is really usefull as i am planning to go into the advertising sector for products and services in business.
However i would have liked to improve my pitch because i could have made it more easy for the class to understand by using prezi or beeclip instead of a slidshow. Also i could have wrote more about risk assesment and made it more interactive. But on a whole i think i could of blogged more regularly that i have done.
This project was extremely and i enjoyed working as a team and making new friends. This project has taught me allot and i hope our final music video will be as much fun to watch as it has been creating it.

The filming of our music video was also an aspect which i thouroughly enjoyed because it taught me about the right framing and movement that i needed to make my shots look less static. The filming was also hard because we had to shoot bastracks which is the filming of the whole song from start to finish. On a whole i really enjoyed filming this project and learning about make different shits like close ups, medium shots, long shots and tracking shots.

My Biggest Improvment
I had allot of fun in this project and i have aquired various skills and experiences. The biggest aspect of improvment was my ability to film. I learnt about the framing and movements of the camera and how it can affect the shots. It was also a different experience of filming basetracks which was hard by enjoyable at the same time
( Filming in mile end)
Mechandise
Almost finishing our music video made me think about the massive potential we have to sell merchandise because of our genre. Our target group are teenagers and young adults which gives us allot of scope to sell products with our own design and logo. Our merchandise be :
- Mugs
- T shirts
- Necklases
- Bags
- Hats
Editing tools
The Editing Software we used for our music video was final cut pro on macs. Final cut pro allows us to use multi-camera editing for combining video from multiple camera sources as well as standard special effect like roll, slip, slide, scrub, razor blade and time remapping edit functions. It comes with a range of video transitions and a range of video and audio filters such as keying tools, and cropping tools. This is a fantasic bit of software which is easy to use and makes your final product look profeshional
Skills Development
The project of creating our own music seemed like a dauting and hard project when i first heard that we had to create for our media coursework. However as the days went by i started learning new things about music videos like the Conventions and the intertextualitys which were used allot. I have gained allot of skills during this project such as:
- Editing - During this project i have learnt how to utilise final cut pro editing software by adding special affect and tints to make out music video better
- Filming - The Music video which we created needed allot of shots being filmed in various locations like kings cross and st james parks which helped me to learn about the right framing and movement to use on each clip
- Basetracks - The music video project was completely different to the other project because we had to use basetracks. Basetracks are when you film the whole song from start to finish which helped to make the editing process easier, because it allowed us to cut in between each basetracks.
- Green screen - This was a completly new skills which i had to learn, but was usefull because it added the option of having any kins of background we wanted.
Main Aim For Music Video
At the start of our planning for this music video, we had many aims and goals that we wanted to achieve. The most important goal for our music video was to keep the music video fun and enjoyable to watch, this meant that we had to have good acting with the right exspressions along with loads of jump cuts that are on the beat. We also tried to include allot of special effects like slow motion and the speeding up of clips, to add a suprise factor which no one would expect. I think we have achieved this goal and hopefully our music video will be enjoyed by otheres on release day.
Ancillary work research
Now that are music video has been created, i have started to think about the ancillary work and some of the inspirations i could used.
Intertextuality in Our Music Video
The Genre of our music video allowed our music video to have similar traits to music videos created by profeshional artists. Pop is a genre that can be used together with another genre like RNB and Indie. By using intertextuality it made our music video easier for our viewers to relate and undertsnad the type of genre we used.
- Eminem - Without You
- Jay Z ft Kanye West - Paris
- Example - KickStart
- Janelle Monae - TightRope

Recap
One day away from final deadline here's a picstitch of the filming of editing process that I directly took part in. It shows me directing and shows the editing without base track layouts to cut and then the final where we lined up the footage to cut which just made life easier.
Green screen Problems
Although the green screen was a good experience and provided us with many great shots, it is a very tricky process to utilize on.
- The Green screen is hard to keep on the frame when the artists are dancing or moving.
- It is time consuming as removing the green and adding colors and filters are hard and inconsistent.
- The time it takes to render is really annoying, as we aren't able to add or improve shots when that happens.
- It is also hard for the MACS to process, and is prone to freezing.
Green Screen
Our Group decided to create allot of base tracks in the green screen room The green screen allows us to add backgrounds from our location shots and other effects like colors and tints by removing the green in the editing suite.
EDITING: Decision - why we made it
There has been a little bit of controversy with regards to this shot. This shot is reversed and shows two business men disappear behind the pillar and then we poke out from either side of it. We wanted to create a mischievous fun feel and it seems to have done so. HOWEVER - we have had contrasting views about it. One of our teachers said that the pillar may be too big which takes away from what is occurring in the scene. But when we showed it to our target audience and our other teacher, they seemed to love it and understand the reasons behind it being there. We received a whirlwind of positive comments about that shot in particular which led us to make the conscious decision to keep the shot in. It isn't too long and most people seemed to enjoy the flavour that it brings.
Classroom Feedback
During Tuesdays lesson we had a feedback session about all our music videos. This was extremely helpful as it pointed out the good and the bad aspects of out music video, and gave us specific areas that we needed to Improve on.
- Editing and Cutting to the beat of the music
- Trying to make sure that the framing is Consistent
- Keeping a same theme for the chorus
Filming Problems
The Filming of our music video provided many problems and dilemmas that was out of our control and hard to overcome.
- The Weather on sometimes was terrible, damp and cold which made our location feel gloomy which isn't part of our fun and happy genre of pop.
- The Memory cards often needed to be configured for the right setting to work on the camera, which made us loose precious time.
- The lighting on some locations were bad, and caused us problems with the focus and framing of our shots.
Personal review of roughcut
The rough cut that we created was a success, the basics of the base tracks and simple edits worked very well. However it seemed to use up allot of time, as we filmed allot of shots in the green screen, which took time and hard work to add the correct backgrounds. Also our framing seemed inconsistent and stood out, so for our final edit we will have to crop the edges. On a whole, the rough cut was good and provided out group with good feedback.
Technologies used on blog
There are many good technology software and sites that can be used to add information on to your blog :

Clipgrab - This software helps you download clips and musics from the interent in a easy and convinient way.
Go animate - This allows you to create a video with animated characters which is fun to make and easy to interprete
Photobucket - It allows you to upload pictures in bulk and make slideshows.
