Music Videos sole purpose is to promote the artist as well as the single.

Azealia Banks' '212' uses many close ups in the video which is important meaning that the artist is being shown a lot it also relates to Carol Vernallis' theory of editing as there are many jump cuts used , this couldve possibly been done to keep the audience interested , also the song is a fast pace upbeat song which is reflected in the editing as it is also quite fast . There is also a lack of continuity as there are jumpcuts in the middle of the song where we see words on the screen and a close up of Azealia's lips by doing this keeps the audience more interested as they are not looking at the same thing all the time.
This video would relate to Andrew Goodwin's theme of disjuncture as the song '212' is about a New York subway train , however there is no relevance to the train in the video.
There is no evidence of the 'male gaze' in this video as most of the shots are either mid shots or close ups of the artist this could of been done purposely so that the audience especially males focus more on the song rather than the artists appearance.
